"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."

~Henry David Thoreau

Some suggestions are baby carrots, pretzels, cheese sticks, Goldfish, apple slices, grapes. No Cheese Curls. We will continue with the snacks as long as the students clean up after themselves. Students will not be permitted to go to their lockers to get their snacks if they come to my class without them.

·   Use the link to the Pre-algebra book’s website for additional help/tutoring.  The link is highlighted below, in “Parent Page.”

When it comes to math, children often ask, “When am I ever going to use this?”  While they may never need to know about those all-too-familiar trains that leave a station in opposite directions, they are developing thinking skills to recognize and analyze patterns.  This higher-level thinking will help them figure out solutions to a variety of problems they may come across in their lives.

Below, are links to websites that may provide your child with practice items or information to help him/her understand some tricky math concepts.

Web Links

CHAPTER 6 TEST BONUS:

  • Go to the book website and complete the Chapter 6 Test (not quizzes).
  • Print out the results when you have earned a 100%.
  • Bring the print-out showing that you had all the problems correct to class and turn it in with your Ch. 6 Test in school.
  • This will earn you 3 bonus points to take the place of up to 3 missed points you may get on the test in school.

This site was created by the Center for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching.  It provides the student with interactive tutorials on many different mathematical concepts.  Section 15.1 is one that I recommended for students who needed help with integers.

This is the site w/ scientific notation flashcards.

Funbrain:  This site allows children from pre-K to grade 8 to practice math skills by playing interactive games online.  The second link connects you to Line Jumper, one of the sites I recommend for working with integers. You must work at the level “SuperBrain.”

Math TV:  This site is designed to help middle school students develop problem-solving skills. It features step-by-step instructional videos covering algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, and probability.

This site is great for finding all the prime numbers… it is an interactive version of Eratosthenes’ Sieve!  Click on numbers until all the number with multiples are gone.  When the boxes turn red, you are left with only prime numbers.  It may not work with all computers; you need Java Script for it to run.
