Diocesan WORK CAMP 2012 - July 21- July 27, 2012
Overview:
NOTE: WORK CAMP IS NOW FULL FOR 2012 - Every summer approximately 600 teenagers come together to serve those in need within the Diocese of Arlington. Known as "Work Camp" these high school youth are placed into a faith community of charity, service, and prayer, whereby they assist others in a Christ-like manner. St. Joseph's Church typically sends between 40-45 youth each year and does its best to accomodate each high school teenager at least twice. Work Camp is widely considered to be the most enjoyable faith experiences that our youth participate in. Although much time and planning is necessary to become part of this wonderful event, it is truly worth the sacrifice and effort.

We Need Help with Work Camp (2012)
Our stakeholder (i.e. person in chrage) this year is once again Mr. Dan Csizmar, Assistant Coordinator of Youth Ministry (dan.csizmar@gmail.com). For all information regarding meeting times, requirements, open spaces, jobs, and Work Camp dates, please contact Mr. Csizmar above.
Chaperones: Adults over the age of 25. We need both male and female. The work camp experience is one of a kind and extremely rewarding for the adult chaperones. Chaperones are expected to interact with teenagers and to support them throughout the week as well as lending a hand on the job sites (You do not need to have extensive background knowledge or skills with power tools). If you have any questions about being a chaperone please contact Mr. Csizmar.
Contractors/Handymen: Work Camp cannot take place without the hundreds of contractors/handymen that we acquire from around the diocese. St. Joseph's needs ten (10) contractors (licensed or unlicensed) and/or handy people for the week. One can come up for just a day, or, up to four days to help. If you can dry wall, you can be a contractor. If you have painted a house, you can be a contractor. If you have done simple plumbing procedures, you can be a contractor.
Security: An easy job. Come down one day to Work Camp to assist Work Camp staff in security throughout the afternoon while teens and adults return to homebase. A great opportunity to see what Work Camp is all about, and, at the same time, helping others. Please note: Secuirty does not mean "law enforcement." Traditionally, parents have done this role simple to direct "people traffic" coming back from the work sites. We call them secuirty because they make sure Work Campers go to the right places while having their ID badges. This year all security need to be Virtus approved by the Diocese of Arlington.
Drivers / Nurses: We need drivers to help transport our tools to Work Camp. Those with trucks or mini vans are greatly needed. Work Camp is also in need of nurses for a day or for the entire week.
Vans/SUV: In order to cut the costs of renting mini-vans, any lending of mini-vans for the week would be greatly appreciated. Van/SUV donations need to have at least seven seat belts and insured. For more information, contact our stakeholder.
Prayer Support: For anyone who wants to say prayers while we are away.
Fundraising: Work Camp usually costs us approximately $25,000.00 in order to have 45 youth attend. With that being said, any financial donations are greatly appreciated. To make a donation, please call Mr. David Bristow at 703-880-4309.
