8th Grade
English – Snowman Limericks

Part 1
Write a limerick poem about
a snowman. A limerick is a five-line poem, in which the third and fourth lines
are shorter than the other lines. Specifically, lines 1, 2, and 5 have three
stressed syllables, while lines 3 and 4 only have two. The rhyme scheme for a
limerick is aabba. See two examples
of limericks below.
There once was a girl name Maureen
Who wished she were skinny and lean
But she loved pizza pie,
Pastrami on rye,
And ate till her plate was clean!
A lady who loved the trombone
Was lucky she lived all alone
When she started to play,
Her friends stayed away,
And left her to sputter and moan.
Part 2
Using construction paper,
create your snowman. Then, with construction paper and other craft materials
(rhinestones, sequins, glitter, buttons, etc) give your snowman five
accessories. Remember the snowman (or snow woman!) you create is the one to
whom you refer in your limerick!
Part 3
Finally, type up the
limerick you wrote (make sure the text is plain, black, and is centered as it
is above) and attach it to your snowman (not to his/her back, as I would like
to be able to read your poem while looking at your snowman). PLEASE CHECK YOUR
PROJECT FOR MISTAKES BEFORE SUBMITTING IT TO MRS. MORRISON!
Final Project (Parts 1, 2 and 3) is due
