Basketball

The mission of the CYO basketball is to reinforce Catholic values taught in our school and religious education program. CYO basketball is meant not only to encourage healthy physical activity but also to play a significant role in the development of Catholic values in the youth of St. Joseph. CYO basketball fosters the development of cooperation, respect, sportsmanship, responsibility, leadership, competitiveness, fairness and courtesy. Boys and girls in grades 4 – 8 at St. Joseph School and in the CCD program are eligible to participate on our teams. Practices are held twice a week with one game on the weekend. The season runs from October until March of each year. For more information contact John Lau at John.Lau@csb.gov.

Cheerleading

St. Joseph School offers the opportunity for young ladies to be a part of a cheerleading team in grades 5-8. Twenty fifth and sixth graders make up the Junior Varsity team while twenty seventh and eighth graders make up the Varsity team. Cheerleading tryouts for a school year are held in the spring prior to the beginning of that school year and runs from September to April. Tennis

The St. Joseph School Tennis Program goes from September to late October and is led by Mary Barry.

Track.

CYO Track and Field is a great opportunity for students to be introduced
to the world of track and field in a low key, fun environment. All
students between 3rd -8th grades are eligible to participate in the
twice yearly track meets (spring & fall). The fall meet is usually in
early to mid October and the spring meet in late April or early May.
The track meets have races from 50 meters to1 mile and field events such
as shot put, long jump and softball throw. Practices are held during
the fall and spring from 3pm-4:30pm on Sunday's at Herndon HS track. We
realize that many students participate in other sports during the year
so our track and field program is viewed as highly complimentary to
those sports. We realize that conflicts may occur and as such students
are encouraged to attend as many Sunday practices as their schedules
allow. Our goal is to make our students lifelong participants in the
sport of running. For more information please contact Mike Stievater at
sixstievs@aol.com.
