WHERE THE KEY OF EDUCATION IS OPENING DOORS TO THE FUTURE

Dear First Grade Parents:

In Religion this week, we will be focusing on the January Virtue of Empathy (reviewing it), and beginning to work on the February Virtue, Cooperation.  We will also be directing much effort toward the activities planned for Catholic Schools Week.

In Reading this week, the students will be reading another story about friendship.  Unlike last week’s story, this is a piece of non-fiction.  They will be able to recognize that friends come in “all kinds”, and be able to see the fun that they can have together.

In Science, we will begin our review of the 5 animal groups we have been studying.  The class will work through a Study Guide along with their facts booklets in a final review prior to the test next Tuesday, 2/7/12.  Once the Study Guide and booklets are sent home, try to review 2 groups each night.  Help your child see the similarities and differences between groups.

Many of the children today seemed unsure of what would be going on this week for the celebration of Catholic Schools Week.  I showed them the schedule of events that was attached to last Friday’s Cargill’s Chronicle.  Please refer to the email that went out last week, and open the link given in the “Friday Folder” section.  It would be a good idea to keep a copy of the schedule on hand for this week’s events and activities.  A copy of the email that went out on 1/27/12 is below the Homework.  If you are not getting the Cargill’s Chronicle (Friday Folder email), please let the Office know.  The emails go to the address on file for this school year.  If you have changed email accounts, they will need to update the records accordingly.

January 27th, 2012

My Dear Parents,

Catholic Schools’ Week Greeting!  Sunday, January 29th marks the beginning of the national celebration of Catholic Education.  We will proudly affirm and celebrate with one another the gift of a Christ-filled education.  Three of our student ambassadors will speak at three of the Masses this weekend.  A special thank you to Jenny Schimmel, 5:00 PM Saturday Mass; Lucie Drahozal, 10:00 AM Sunday Mass; and Marianne Khattar, 11:30 AM Sunday Mass, for expressing in their words what Catholic Education (specifically at St. Joseph School) has meant to their development.  Additionally, I am grateful to Diego Garcia and Jake Vanaman who will address perspective parents at our Open House on Tuesday, January 31st at 9:30 AM.  We are thankful to you for participating in the parent share assignment that will beautifully adorn our halls.  Please extend a welcome to you neighbors and friends to attend our Open House.

Join us to applaud the talents of our children on Thursday, Feb. 2nd at 9:00 AM.  Review the daily schedule of events with your child/children that have been planned in order to ensure each event and activity will be memorable.

What better time than now to begin to think of ways that St. Joseph School can celebrate the 35th year of opening our doors as a Catholic School.  This coming Fall, we will mark this prestigious milestone in our school’s history.  We would like to have activities planned throughout the year for the children, as well as, for the adults.   Please put your “Thinking Caps and Party Hats On” and send us any suggestions.  Think of events that would showcase St. Joseph School, past, present and future.  If you would like to serve on a “35th Anniversary Celebration” committee, please submit your name to my office.  We are enthusiastically looking for your assistance.

Please note the attached parent letter announcing 2012-2013 tuition rates.  We thank you for your continued support and commitment to St. Joseph School.
